LEAD Story 330

The Brothers in Sabah had the opportunity to meet Brother Armin, individually and as a communally during his canonical visit to Sabah on 25-26 February at De La Salle Butitin, Nabawan.

During the community meeting Brother Armin highlighted two points. Firstly, he brought a question for reflection “How can we as Brothers of Sabah do things as a community?” The Brothers should be seen as a fraternal community where our apostolic life is also shared. Secondly, he urged the Brothers to think as a District instead of merely a parochial community of Sabah. The Brothers community in Nabawan is part of a larger community of LEAD as well as in the Institute.

Brother Justin Mobilik and Brother Peter Ng will be joining Brother Egbertus Joikul to form a new community at De La Salle Butitin Nabawan officially by May 15, 2020. (Text & Photos: Br. Egbertus Joikul FSC)

Bishop Justin Saw Min Thide, an alumnus of De La Salle Nget Aw San, led the Tercentenary Mass on March 14 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Approximately 500 Lasallians, Old Boys from nine former La Salle schools in Myanmar, teachers and students from La Salle English Center, and members of many religious congregations joined the Tercentenary Celebration. Among the La Salle Old Boys there were a good number of active and retired government officials.

Br. Lucas Kyi Thien FSC gave the welcoming remarks before the Mass. Different ethnic groups of students from La Salle English Center wore their traditional clothes to welcome all the guests and presented gifts of offering in the Mass. The Mass concluded with a video message from the Brother Visitor, Br. Armin Luistro FSC. Right after the Tercentenary Mass Celebration, lunch was hosted in the Cardinal Charles Bo’s residence, which is next to St. Mary’s Cathedral. It was a significant celebration; it provided an opportunity for all the La Salle Old Boys (alumni) to reconnect again with the Lasallian tradition and the Brothers in Myanmar. The Tercentenary Mass Celebration was also featured in The Myanmar Times, a local newspaper. (Text & Photos: Br. John Win Kyaw FSC)

Last February 19, the members of our English Debate Club in La Salle Gakuen had an online interaction with the members of the Zobel Parliament Debate Society. They were able to exchange stories related to the practice of English debate and ask questions about each other’s culture. Special thanks to Ms. Addie Zaballero and Mrs. Nette Torrato of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School!

Here are some of the comments of the students from Kagoshima:

“It was fun but I was very nervous.” “They were friendly and kind so I hope that the interaction will continue. We hope to visit the Philippines or that they visit Kagoshima whenever possible.”

“I felt the Lasallian family spirit. There are many schools in La Salle worldwide and we hope we could have more opportunities to interact with students from different countries.”
